TAOISEACH Leo Varadkar toured the constituency of Dublin Bay North with Fine Gael general election candidate Senator Catherine Noone last Saturday week.

Senator Noone, the Taoiseach and Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment, Richard Bruton, visited Howth Harbour to discuss the issues facing the fishing community. The Taoiseach met fishermen at the harbour and young competitive sailors at Howth Yacht Club.

The delegation also visited Raheny GAA Club and met with local GAA players, staff and volunteers. A Taoiseach hadn't visited the club since the ‘80s and there was a great buzz in the club.

Senator Noone said afterwards: “It was great that the Taoiseach could find time to visit Dublin Bay North, despite his very busy schedule.

“This gave us the opportunity to demonstrate the issues affecting our constituency. Nothing beats hearing about the issues affecting the community from people in the community.”

The Taoiseach also met the Raheny All Stars which was established in September 2016 at Raheny GAA Club as a special initiative for children (9-12 years) with special needs.

Maria Ui Chinneide, lead co-ordinator of Raheny GAA Allstars, said: “Our main objective was to include children that could not take part in a typical team games and training, assisting them with ball skills, exercise and of course, fun and enjoyment in a safe environment.”

The Taoiseach’s visit was a fantastic occasion for the club. The visiting party was welcomed by chairman Colm Codd and greeted by a guard of honour from the club’s Minor players.

All-Star Player of the Year Brian Fenton was on hand to chat to the visitors as well as girls and boys who are representing Raheny GAA on the underage County Development squads.
