A NORTHSIDE school is to take part in a twinning project with a school in Spain.

Coláiste Ghlór na Mara in Balbriggan held an award ceremony last week to launch the initiative.

Sarah Byrne, a teacher at the school, said: “We are starting an exchange programme with Leargás and engaging in a twinning project with a school in Ribadavia in the North of Spain.

“We have been presented with a medal by the Mayor of Ribadavia and at the ceremony last week in our school, three of our students presented this medal to the Mayor of Fingal. The students from the Irish and Spanish schools will work on a project together with the main theme being 'Medieval Villas'.

“There will also be a language component as our Irish students use the medium of Irish in school and the Spanish students use Galician. It promises to be an interesting project.”

Coláiste Ghlór na Mara is an Irish language multi-denominational secondary school.
