A NORTHSIDE grandmother was celebrating recently after getting the chance to spin the Winning Streak wheel and winning €49,000 on the National Lottery TV game show on RTÉ last Saturday week (October 13).

Margaret Rafferty, from Whitehall, described herself as the ‘Unluckiest woman in Ireland’ because she has never won any prize in her life apart from a £50 shopping voucher for Clery’s department store won back in the ‘90s. However, all that changed when she scooped €49,000 on the show. Margaret has four children – sons Hugh, Fran and Sean and daughter Caroline – as well as 12 grandchildren who all supported her in RTÉ on the night. She works in the Beaumont Hospital shop and there was great excitement throughout the hospital.

Margaret claims to never have missed an episode of Winning Streak…apart from the night when her name was called out to appear.

When she came home from Mass her family were in the sitting room watching the X-Factor and she didn’t want to turn the TV channel over just for her.

Sometime later, her phone started ringing with relatives from Monaghan and Donegal breaking the good news to her. Margaret has no plans yet for the money but said her family will come first and foremost in her plans.
