DUBLIN City Council and Fingal County Council are calling on members of the public to report incidences of material being stockpiled in the run up to Halloween.

Dublin City Council said it will be carrying out dozens of stockpiling raids, removing bonfire material across the city between now and October 31 as part of its drive to promote a safe Halloween that all the community can enjoy.

Simon Brock of the city council’s Waste Management Services’ section said: “Dublin City Council is asking you to report stockpiling of bonfire material to us as soon as possible so that we can remove the material and avoid the risk of serious injury, damage to property and our environment over the Halloween period.

“We are putting in place an extensive action plan for the 2018 Halloween period to ensure that we remove as much material as possible to help ensure a family friendly Halloween for all.”

In 2017 Dublin City Council successfully removed 450 tonnes of bonfire materials during the Halloween period in response to over 300 reports of stockpiling from the public.

It said the excellent cooperation received from An Garda Síochána is essential to the success of these operations.

You can report stockpiled bonfire material to Dublin City Council by calling 01-2222222 or 01-6796186 (evenings and weekends), or report ‘bonfire materials’ online at http://www.dublincity247.ie/

Meanwhile, Fingal County Council said it too will be removing bonfire material across the county between now and October 31 as part of its drive to promote a safe Halloween for everyone.

David Storey, Director of Services at Fingal County Council, is asking members of the public to report stockpiling of bonfire material to them as soon as possible so that “we can remove the material and avoid the risk of serious injury, damage to property and our environment over the Halloween period”.

“We are putting in place an extensive action plan for the 2018 Halloween period to ensure that we remove as much material as possible, and this, together with our free Festival of Fire events in Swords, Balbriggan and Blanchardstown, will help ensure a family friendly Halloween for all,” said Mr Storey.
