STAFF and residents at a Northside nursing home held a celebration event recently to mark its 60th anniversary.

Shrewsbury House Nursing Home in Drumcondra has been a residential nursing home since 1958.

Cliona Gaughran, manager of the home, said: “We are a family-run business with myself and my three sisters in charge at present.

“It was started by my grandparents in 1958, who were both nurses. My mum took over in 1970 after she qualified and she raised my sisters and myself in the house connected to the nursing home.

“My mum still lives there today and is still heavily involved in the running of the nursing home.

Cliona added: “The house was previously the headquarters of the GAA as we are just opposite Croke Park.”

Three generations of the Gaughran family were among those who attended the event where there was a pet farm, music acts and a face painter to entertain staff and residents.
