REHEARSALS are well underway for a brilliant new play written by Baldoyle woman Helen McNamara.

Helen, from Grange Road, originally wrote ‘MisConceptions’ six years ago but it had languished on her computer’s desktop folder until recently. This year’s abortion referendum inspired her to revisit the play, given some of its subject matter, so Helen set about gathering a cast and crew.

‘MisConceptions’ is Helen’s fifth play and her first to run in Smock Alley Theatre in Temple Bar. The talented cast have appeared in everything from ‘Fair City’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ to ‘Vikings’, as well as theatrical productions and music videos.

The play centres on six members of the First Thursday Book Club, who love nothing more than a good feisty discussion. They argue, listen and occasionally learn something. They’ve discussed books from ‘Horton Hears a Who’ to ‘War and Peace’ and everything in between.

However, when one character’s book choice, ‘The Business of Babies’, is revealed, the real stories behind the First Thursday Book Club’ slowly begin to come to life.

‘Misconceptions’ is directed by Niamh Cummins, with music by the playwright’s son, Frankie McNamara. It runs from November 6-10 in Smock Alley. To book, visit www.smockalley.com
