TWO NORTHSIDE men were presented with a Wish Star Award by Make-A-Wish Ireland at a star-studded ceremony in the Sandymount Hotel last month.

Balbriggan natives Barry Brennan and Eamon Breen, together with their friend, Eoin Markham, raised a fantastic €17,000 for the charity that grants the wishes of seriously ill children.

Barry and his two friends, Eoin and Eamon, succeeded in raising such a significant amount by running the Dublin Marathon thanks to the support of friends and colleagues who sponsored them.

Speaking at the event, Barry Brennan said: “I chose to fundraise for Make-A-Wish Ireland after seeing a TV piece about the charity showing the difference it can make to a seriously ill child’s life.

“I am lucky to have two happy and healthy daughters and I am more than happy to do my bit to help others who are not as fortunate.

“It is an absolute honour and privilege to receive an award from such an amazing charity.”

Susan O’Dwyer, chief executive of Make-A-Wish Ireland, praised Barry and his two friends for raising such a phenomenal amount which will enable them to make seriously ill children’s wishes come true.

“They are so deserving of this Wish Star Award and are shining examples of what can be achieved through teamwork and community spirit,” said Ms O’Dwyer.

“It is thanks to people like Barry and all their friends and family that we can continue to support truly brave children and their families right across Ireland.

“The Make-A-Wish Wish Star Awards are an opportunity for us to say a very sincere thank you to the wonderful volunteers, supporters, ambassadors and businesses that work with us and help us grant the wishes of children living with life-threatening conditions.”
