Action demanded after car crashes into house

A LOCAL man is calling on Fingal County Council to install crash barriers at the junction outside his home after a car crashed into his house. 

The man, who did not wish to be named, contacted Northside People following the incident on September 2 at Thornleigh Green, Swords.

“Luckily no one in the house was injured,” said the man. 

“This is the second crash at our property. The house had to be evacuated along with neighbouring houses due to a gas mains being severed. 

“The house is at the junction of Thornleigh Green and Thornleigh Square, adjacent to the Educate Together National School. 

“The path outside our house is particularly busy with pedestrian traffic due to the school and a walking route to Applewood village. 

“The impact was so severe that a structural engineer has deemed the house unsafe to live in.”

The man said five tenants in the house were extremely lucky to find emergency accommodation. He is urging Fingal County Council to install crash barriers at the junction outside his home.

“I believe this would prevent any future incidents like this which could have been fatal,” he said. It is of particular concern to me due to the volume of children using this path.”

A spokesperson for Fingal County Council said it has yet to take this development in charge. 

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Garda Press Office told Northside People: “Gardai in Swords were called to an incident at the Thornleigh Green area of Swords, County Dublin on Sunday, September 2 at approximately 11pm. 

“A car crashed into a house and the male (40s) was brought was brought to Beaumont Hospital with minor injuries.”

The spokesperson added that structural damage was done to the house and enquiries are ongoing.
