Northsiders get their skates on
Dublin People 29 Jul 2018
ON Sunday August 19, a fun 5K roller blade/skate event will take place at 10am in Fr Collins Park, Donaghmede, to raise funds for breast cancer services at Beaumont Hospital.

As part of ‘Blades and Shades’ members of Dublin Roller Derby will skate a demonstration lap to start the event and will act as marshals and helpers, guiding and supporting other ‘less-practiced’ skaters around two laps of the 2.5k course.
Registration for ‘Blades and Shades’ is €25 per adult, €10 for children (over 8). It also includes a free event for children under age 8, called ‘Whacky Wheels’, in which children take part over a short race on any form of wheels – skateboards, skates, blades, scooters, etc. Goody bags will be provided for all children taking part.
The event is organised by Tara Lynch, from Coolock, with the support of Beaumont Hospital Foundation.
Tara has had family and friends treated for breast cancer at Beaumont Hospital.
“We all have someone in our lives who has been affected by breast cancer and I wanted to do something to help make a difference,” said Tara.
“I took up rollerblading as a fun way to keep fit and thought it would be a really fun idea for a charity fundraiser.”
The local community is rowing in behind the event and a raffle will take place supported by local businesses. Gillian Shiels of Clever Foods will be selling pink doughnuts to help raise funds and Dublin Fire Brigade will provide first aid support and challenging teams to compete against them in a Tug-of-War charity challenge.
You can register to take part online at www.beaumontfundraising.ie, by calling Beaumont Hospital Foundation on 01-8092457 or by emailing [email protected]. You can also register in person at MD Fitness in Coolock.
Turn up and enjoy a great day out for all the family while supporting breast cancer services at Beaumont Hospital.
