Council launches energy saving kits

FINGAL County Council has an initiative designed to help homeowners better understand their energy use and reduce their bills.
The Home Energy Saving kits, which are available to borrow from Fingal libraries, were launched in Donabate Library.
They were developed by Dublin energy agency Codema and contain six tools in each kit: fridge/freezer thermometer, thermal leak detector, plug-in energy monitor, temperature & humidity meter, stopwatch and radiator key.
These will address key areas of energy use in the home – space heating, hot water and electricity consumption – and will help identify common issues such as lack of insulation, poor ventilation and appliances that may be driving up electricity bills.
Speaking about the initiative, Fingal County Librarian, Betty Boardman, said: “I am delighted that we can make these kits available through our libraries which are used by homeowners of all ages.
“Libraries have a long tradition of being centres of education and information and this initiative illustrates that.”
Codema director Gerry Wardell said: “I hope these kits will encourage a shift in behavioural change that is needed to improve energy efficiency at both local and national level.”
