A NORTHSIDE club has announced that two of its extremely loyal supporters are joining forces as title sponsors of the iconic Skerries 100 Road Race.

Country Crest and Des D'Arcy Motors have both been associated with Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters’ Club for many years.

Breaking with tradition, this year’s event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 7 and 8, over the demanding 2.9-mile seaside course.

Michael Hoey of Country Crest said they are delighted to be the official co-sponsor for this year’s Skerries 100.

“It’s a real honour to be in a position to support this incredible local sports event, which is now running for over 70 years, and has become engrained in our calendar,” said Mr Hoey.

“Thanks to the fantastic work done by the Loughshinny Motorcycle Club, the event attracts riders from all over the globe, and thousands of motorcycle fans every year.

“We hope the spectators enjoy this thrilling weekend of racing, and most importantly, we want to wish the entire road racing stars a safe and enjoyable event.”

Des D'Arcy said: “Des D'Arcy Motors are proud to be once more involved with the Loughshinny Club as a co-title sponsor and we are looking forward to an exciting weekend’s racing.

“I believe that the change to Saturday/Sunday racing will improve the attendance, and hopefully the fans will respond by buying the wrist band and programme and support the club in keeping road racing alive.”

Susan Plunkett, chairperson of Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters’ Club (LMCSC) and Clerk of the Course, said: “I am delighted to be involved with the organisation and running of this wonderful, dynamic, iconic and historic event.

“We have a really strong committee and race team and they have been working tirelessly in the background to put all the pieces of this wonderful event together.

“We have made a historic change to Saturday and Sunday so would really appreciate if the word about this can be spread. I would like to thank our title sponsors and all our individual races sponsors, our advertisers and all the people who give us provisions or money to help us facilitate the event, your loyal support over the years is greatly appreciated by all our members.”

Ms Plunkett added: “We have a full race programme to put on and the circuit preparation will be key to this, so for anyone who wants to come along and help we meet on a Wednesday at 8.30pm in the Hills Cricket Club from now until the event.”
