MEMBERS of a local dance school were celebrating recently after enjoying major success at an international event.

Dance AMAD School of Dance, which holds classes at Ardscoil La Salle, based on Raheny Road, beside Kilbarrack Fire Station, competed at the The 5 Nations International Cup in Wales.

Thirty-six members, some as young as six, competed against dancers from the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales and Dance AMAD did their trainer Mairead Magennis Kearney proud. The 5 Nations International Cup is run by Irish promoter Alan Healy of Dance Supreme.

Over the course of the weekend the dancers dance for their clubs. But the last night is 5 Nations night, party night, where the best dancers from each club represent their country.

Ms Magennis Kearney captained the Irish team and watched on as her dancers and those from other Irish schools danced their hearts out.

Freestyle, SlowDance and Hip Hop were the categories on a fantastic night with a hugely festival feel and the Irish team did the country proud, beating their great friends and local rivals Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England.

Dance AMAD and the Irish team were delighted to win the 5 Nations Cup for the fourth consecutive year.

All at Dance AMAD had a hugely successful trip and extra space was needed on the boat on the way home for their 174 trophies!

Ms Magennis told Northside People: "The kids had an amazing weekend. It’s fantastic to see how their confidence grows as they attend classes and build up to entering a competition, with kids as young as six competing and loving every minute of it.

“I was hugely proud of them in Wales, as I am at any competition. Dance AMAD dancers are known for being lovely kids and it shines through in their dancing.”

Dance AMAD have classes in Balbriggan on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Raheny on Wednesdays and Saturdays. For more information, visit www.DanceAMAD.ie
