The show goes on for Baldoyle Musical Society

BALDOYLE Musical Society’s annual pantomime and musical have been delighting local audiences since its foundation in 1973. 

During that period of time the society has also established itself as an important social outlet for those in the area interested in musical theatre, with a membership which now totals over 70. 

As well as catering for those who enjoy performing on stage, Baldoyle Musical Society has been lucky over the years to be able to call on many committed and skilled members.

These perform crucial roles off stage, including stage direction and choreography, set design, set building, costume design, and front of house and stage management.

Baldoyle has a proud tradition of producing what is now considered to be the most popular pantomime in North Dublin staged by a musical society, with sell-out crowds totalling 2,500 over eight shows being the norm in recent years. 

This tradition continued in January with the production of ‘Beauty and The Beast’. This production provided wonderful family entertainment featuring the usual excellent selection of song and dance numbers, as well as plenty of audience participation which has become a hallmark of Baldoyle shows.

“We are very proud of the legacy of the Baldoyle Musical Society pantomime, and we promise to continue to give value for money to our audiences,” said Karl Hoffman, BMS chairman.

The society has also had great success with their musical productions over the years and continues to go from strength to strength.

Last year’s show, ‘Seussical – The Musical’, was noteworthy for receiving nominations in three categories at the prestigious Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) annual awards ceremony, with Karen McCourt receiving the Best Supporting Actress award.  The society’s most recent production, staged in April, was the Broadway sensation ‘9 to 5 – The Musical’ featuring music and lyrics by Dolly Parton. 

The show received rave reviews from audiences for superb performances by both cast and chorus alike, and was a great showcase for the talent within the membership.

This year’s season will finish with the performance of a selection of numbers from ‘Beauty and The Beast’ and ‘9 to 5’ at the ‘Baldoyle Mayfest’ festival to be held in Baldoyle Racecourse Park on May 13.
