Mental health book initiative launched
Dublin People 14 Apr 2018
JIGSAW Dublin 15 and Jigsaw North Fingal, in collaboration with Fingal Libraries, recently launched a project for the county.
Self-help books are now recognised as a vital source of support for people experiencing mental health difficulties.
Read Your Mind is a catalogue which brings together an invaluable collection of over 113 books on a range of mental health related topics, that are available for free to young people, their parents, and friends at all libraries across Fingal.
David Kavanagh, Project Manager of Jigsaw Dublin 15, said: “We know that one in five young people will experience mental health difficulties before the age of 25.
“Read Your Mind is yet another way through which Jigsaw, in collaboration with Fingal Libraries, are enabling our local community to support young people and their mental health.”
Senior Executive Librarian, Lilian Whelan, said Jigsaw and Fingal Libraries have already enjoyed working together.
“Jigsaw has delivered some very informative presentations and courses to our staff, and we look forward to working together on the Read Your Mind project to support the health and wellbeing of our young borrowers,” said Ms Whelan.
“The Read Your Mind catalogue will be available to help people find the right book for them, covering topics including anger, anxiety, autism, bullying, creativity, low mood, mindfulness, parenting and families, social media and much more.”
Copies of the catalogue will be available through Jigsaw Dublin 15 and Jigsaw North Fingal, and also in all Fingal libraries, post primary schools, primary health care providers and youth and community groups in the local area.
