The new football concept has been a big success at Baldoyle United FC.

A NEW football initiative from the FAI has recevied glowing praise from a Northside soccer club.

Baldoyle United FC recently hosted the final night of the FAI’s experimental ‘Glow in the Dark’ football.

The Baldoyle girls and guests Portmarnock FC donned neon bibs and face paint for the new fun game trial. Played in the dark using ultraviolet lights and dance music, the game is going down a storm with the youngsters.

The FAI hopes the fun approach will help raise the profile of the game with a young female audience.

Baldoyle United chairman Dermot Penrose said: “It’s as much a social occasion as a game of football.

“We found that girls of all abilities have enjoyed the experience and want to get more involved in football.”

Sharon Boyle of the FAI and Fingal County Council organised the games over the last five weeks and an official launch is expected in the coming months.

The innovative experience forms just part of the  Baldoyle United girls’ football programme which is led by Girls’ Head Coach, Justin Reilly. Meanwhile, girls who wish to get involved or play with Baldoyle United should text Justin at 086-8146112 or visit www.baldoyleunited.com.

The club also runs a successful junior academy for five to 13-year-old girls every Saturday at 11am at the Baldoyle United Fotball Club’s clubhouse on Brookstone Road.
