Ryan selected for Dublin Fingal 

THE next general election may be a while off but that hasn’t stopped the Labour Party from selecting its candidate for the Dublin Fingal constituency. 

Brendan Ryan, the sitting TD, who retained his seat during the difficult 2016 General Election for the party, was selected at a meeting of the Dublin Fingal constituency in Murray's of Lusk. 

Deputy Ryan said: “I’m honoured and selected to contest the general election for the Labour Party.

“We don't know when the next election is going to be but we are always election ready in Dublin Fingal. 

“We have never stopped knocking on doors and speaking with our constituents. That is why I believe, I remain as busy as ever and look forward to continuing that work and campaigning whenever the election is called."

Cllr Duncan Smith, who represents the Swords Local Electoral Area (LEA), proposed Deputy Ryan.

Cllr Smith was Deputy Ryan’s Director of Elections in both 2011 and 2016.
“Brendan has been a wonderful leader of our constituency over the past 10 years,” Cllr Smith said. 

“His dedication to the people of Fingal is a wonderful example to councillors such as myself and Brian McDonagh.

Cllr Brian McDonagh (Lab), who represents the Howth-Malahide Local Electoral Area (LEA), seconded the nomination of Deputy Ryan.

"Ever since I got elected in 2014 I've worked closely with Brendan Ryan,” said Cllr McDonagh. 

“It was at a time when Portmarnock came back into the Dublin Fingal constituency and our teamwork in setting up a weekly advice clinic and working closely together on issues such as schools and Dublin Airport's second runway has made my job as a councillor a lot easier.” 

Cllr McDonagh added: “We are looking forward to the campaign.”

Deputy Ryan has been a full-time representative in Fingal since 2007.
