Murakami exhibition launched in Coolock

MINISTER for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton, visited Coolock last week to launch the Jimmy Murakami Exhibition in Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education and officially open ‘Keyframe’, an annual animation seminar. 

Jimmy Murakami is best known for animations such as The Snowman, A Christmas Carol, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. 

The exhibition comprises original sketches, notebooks and storyboards from the famous animator. 

Speaking at the event, animator Steve Woods said: “Jimmy would be delighted to have his work surrounded by enthusiastic students, and would be proud to have his work displayed on the northside of Dublin in Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education.” 

Jimmy’s widow, Ethna, presented the Jimmy Murakami bursary to Alexandra McDonagh, a current student in the B.A. (Hons) Animation. ‘Keyframe’ now in its fifth year, is an animation seminar where industry and education collaborate. 

Key industry practitioners present workshops and lectures to showcase current industry practices and experience. 

Some of the studios presenting at Keyframe include Brown Bag, Boulder Media, Jam Media, Gingerbread Animation and Irish Comics. 

‘Keyframe’ is run in partnership with Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education and Dublin City Public Libraries, Coolock branch. 

Speaking at the event, Minister Bruton acknowledged the college’s engagement with industry and highlighted the importance of creativity in education.
