FORMER Republic of Ireland and Premier League footballer Keith Andrews paid a visit to Baldoyle United FC recently to help out with their preparations for the new season.

The Artane man and UEFA qualified coach gave the youngsters some expert advice and answered lots of interesting questions.

The visit came about after Baldoyle United coach and Manchester United scout, Gerry Reddy, met up with Keith recently. Gerry coached Keith at Stella Maris for many years before he made a move to Wolves.

On dietary advice, Andrews told the youngsters to always drink plenty of water and have healthy food all week – not just the day of a game. He also encouraged them to get out to the back garden and kick a ball as often as possible.

Baldoyle United chairman Dermot Penrose said: “Keith was really generous with his time and was great with the kids. The boys received some great footballing advice for both on and off the pitch.”

Apart from having a scout for Manchester United, the club also has Mark Tierney, a scout for Blackpool FC, on its coaching staff.

Baldoyle United’s teams are currently in pre-season training. Anyone aged between six and 17 who wishes to play in the 2018 season can text Dave Nutley at 086-0231420, visit www.baldoyleunited.com or email [email protected]
