Clonliffe athletes are celebrated

A NORTHSIDE athletics club is looking forward to 2018 after another year of notable successes in 2017.

Clonliffe Harriers AC, based in Santry, was recognised by Athletics Ireland for the third successive year as the Irish Performance Club of the Year.

The men’s senior team enjoyed another outstanding performance in 2017, winning the National Intermediate and Novice Cross Country titles, the National Indoor League, the National Track and Field League and national titles also being won by Brian Gregan, 400, Stephen Rice, Javelin, Jeremy Phillips, 100 and Gary O’Hanlon, National Marathon title. 

The men’s team also came first and second in the National Marathon Team Championships and were the National Half Marathon champions.

Brian Gregan was also the recipient of Track & Field Athlete of the Year award courtesy of his outstanding 2017 track season where he won the National 400 title, won a pulsating 400 at the Morton Games in a world class 45.26 and was a semi-finalist at the World Championships in London.

Also, Club President Paddy Marley received recognition of European Athletics when presented with the European Members Federation Award. 

Separately, Mr Marley recently made presentations to the 2017 Clonliffe Club Athletes of the Year who were:

• Junior Athlete of the Year: Craig Giles

• Master Athlete of the Year: Snezana Bechtina

• Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Year: Leah Moore

• Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Year: Brian Gregan

• Women’s Road/Cross Country Athlete of the Year: Yvonne McDonagh

• Men’s Road/Cross Country Athlete of the Year: Gary O’Hanlon, and

• Clonliffe Harrier of the Year: Greg Hosseny

John Shields and Loki Sports generously sponsored the Athlete of the Year awards. 

Clonliffe Harriers AC would like to congratulate all of their athletes for their efforts during the course of 2017 which is greatly appreciated.
