Kite-making workshops get off to a flying start

SCIENCE Week in Fingal Libraries got off to a flying start last Monday, November 13 when fourth, fifth and sixth class students from St Andrew’s National School took part in kite-making and design workshops in Malahide Library. 

Glenn Heasley and George Ellis of 'Go Fly Your Kite' facilitated the workshops in partnership with Science Foundation Ireland and Fingal Libraries.

The workshop specialises in the construction and design of kites as a means of engagement, learning and therapy. From providing an introduction to the history of the kite, their design and construction to actually flying them, this fun, exciting STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) workshop also encourages individual expression as students use art and design skills to personalise their kite. 

Science Week, which ran from November 12-19, is coordinated by Science Foundation Ireland as part of its education and public engagement programme. Over 250,000 people in Ireland participate every year.
