A PUBLIC meeting will be held this Thursday (September 14) in Howth Yacht Club to discuss a management plan currently being prepared for Ireland’s Eye.

Natura Environmental Consultants have been appointed by Fingal County Council to prepare a management plan for the Howth island, which is popular with tourists and nature lovers.

The plan will bring together all the existing knowledge on the island and a list of detailed actions that will address the key concerns over a five to 10 year period.

The management of visitors to the island will feature significantly in the plan and recommendations will be included on how Ireland’s Eye can be further enhanced for wildlife.

For generations of Dubliners and visitors to Howth, Ireland’s Eye has been a popular destination for day-trippers, with local boats serving the island from the harbour. It is also hugely appealing to birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Historically, Ireland’s Eye was the scene of a controversial murder case in 1852 when a man was accused of killing his wife while on a visit to the island.

This week’s meeting will include presentations on archaeology, history, habitats, plants and birds.

It will commence at 7.30pm. All are welcome.
