Two men arrested after elderly couple robbed in Beaumont

GARDAÍ have arrested two men and recovered cash following a burglary at the home of a couple in their eighties in Beaumont.

The burglary occurred at 2pm on Wednesday, June 28, when the couple had returned to their home following a visit to their local bank. They had withdrawn money which was intended to pay for a family holiday.

As the entered their home, a man approached from their driveway. He allegedly assaulted the couple and then fled the scene with the cash. The couple were not seriously injured but were badly bruised and traumatised.

Following extensive investigations, gardaí stopped a car at 12.40pm yesterday on the Swords Road and the two occupants, a man in his 30s and a man in his 40s, were arrested.

They are detained at Clontarf Garda Station under Section 4 of Criminal Justice Act, 1984. In a follow-up search, gardaí recovered a quantity of cash.
