We’ve been serving local communities for 30 years

PICTURED above are just some of the faces behind Dublin’s most successful local newspaper, Northside People, where our 30th anniversary celebrations are well underway.

Over the decades we have endeavoured to bring you the best local news in Dublin. We’ve come some way since our modest 12-page edition first published in May 1987. But in essence, we are still doing now what we set out to do then – to provide Northside communities with a medium for their views and opinions, while giving local businesses a powerful and effective advertising vehicle.

This special feature is a tribute to all those who made it happen, from our dedicated staff to loyal readers and advertisers – some of whom have been with us since our first edition.

The paper was established in 1987 by Robin and Sylvia Webb and a small team of people who had previously worked in the free newspaper industry. Much like today, they were challenging times to be setting up a business and the endurance of the Northside People brand is testimony to Robin and Sylvia’s confidence in the product.

Last year, we featured in the popular RTÉ series, ‘The Local Eye’, which took an affectionate look at the role of regional newspapers in Ireland. The fly-on-the-wall documentary gave viewers a unique insight into the continuing popularity of local papers, despite the commercial challenges posed by digital media.

Today, we publish three weekly editions across the capital – Northside People (East), Northside People (West) and Southside People, with a print run of 120,000 copies. Our combined weekly readership figures for all three titles are 329,000 (TGI), giving our advertisers unrivalled exposure to potential customers throughout Dublin.

Our dynamic sales team is headed by general manager Conor Mahon, who brings with him extensive experience from the newspaper and advertising industry.

In addition to our printed offerings, we have a popular website (www.dublinpeople.com) and in keeping with the times, we have embraced the age of social networking with our Twitter and Facebook pages.

We deeply value the hard work, dedication and professionalism of all our staff – past and present – who have helped make Northside People the leading brand it is today.

Since 2013, we have been working closely with Celtic Media Group (CMG) who provide us with professional pre-press, printing and management services. As publishers of a number of leading local titles, including the Westmeath Examiner, Connaught Telegraph, Meath Chronicle and the Anglo Celt, CMG has also been to the forefront in developing online synergies for its newspapers in the face of the challenges – and opportunities – presented by digital media.

It has been a genuine pleasure dealing with our readers, community groups, politicians and our advertisers.

We look forward to continuing our journey with you all.
