Gaelscoil Cholmcille enjoys sporting success
Dublin People 15 May 2017
AS THE school year draws to a close, a Northside school is celebrating success on the sporting fields.
Gaelscoil Cholmcille, on Coolock Lane, are proud of it boys and girls’ football teams, who have given the school wonderful sporting days out over the past two years.
Both teams participate in Cumann na mBunscol and the Fingal League. After a very successful season in the Fingal League, the senior girls’ team of 5th and 6th class, are now through to the final.
They took the cup home last year after having a wonderful day playing in Parnell Park. These girls have shown tremendous commitment to their school team, which has resulted in them reaching the Cumann na mBunscool final played in Croke Park two years in a row.
The school is also looking forward to a soccer final of the FAI Leinster Schools Finals in Navan.
This isn’t the first time Gaelscoil Cholmcille has enjoyed sporting success. Throughout its short history both the girls and boys’ GAA teams have been a regular feature at Croke Park, winning Cumann na mBunscoil competitions no fewer than three times.
They have also won the Fingal League three times, while the girls’ soccer team has also won the FAI Primary Schools 5s in Dublin on three occasions.
Meanwhile, Gaelscoil Cholmcille’s campaign to secure a permanent building, which featured recently in Northside People, continues.
The school hopes to provide the much-needed facilities for its sporting stars on-site, as part of the development of its permanent school build.
