Minister opens new facility at Baldoyle school

MINISTER for Education and Skills Richard Bruton visited a Northside school last week to formally open a new computer room.
Minister Bruton praised the quality of the new facility at St Mary’s Secondary School, Baldoyle, and outlined the value of IT in education and promoted the concept of the flipped classroom.
The Minister also spoke to the Student Council, Transition Years who were promoting their show High School Musical (taking place on May 17, 18 and 19), staff members and special needs assistants during his tour of the school. He also viewed the areas of the building due to be refurbished under phase 2 of the school’s redevelopment.
John Moore, Deputy Principal at St Mary’s Secondary School, said: “Thanks to the support of Minister Bruton, our computer room has been completely transformed into a state-of-the-art facility with 34 new powerful computers, including two workgroup digital platforms with integrated overhead projector, printers and screen.
“Following fundraising from our school walk, the school network was also upgraded over the Easter holidays to ensure that the computer room works at the optimum speed and connectivity.
“We are delighted and very proud of this new innovative facility in St Mary’s which will ensure that students will develop key IT skills and advance their independent learning for the digital world.”
Mr Moore added: “All our students are delighted with this advanced computer room designed as a bright inviting learning environment.”
