Local hockey club hits out at vandals
Dublin People 06 May 2017
A NORTHSIDE sports club has hit out at vandals who ripped out fencing at their grounds in a recent incident of anti-social behaviour.
A fence at Malahide Fingal Hockey Club’s pitch at Broomfield, close to the village centre, was pulled out of the ground (see photo) and will cost approximately €750 to repair. The incident is believed to have occurred between 4pm on Monday, April 24 and 9am on Tuesday, April 25. Fortunately there was no damage caused to the surface of the club’s all-weather pitch.
A spokeswoman for the club described the incident, which was reported to gardai, as “just sickening”.
“We have never had this level of vandalism at the club before,” she said.
The all-female club, which has three senior teams and a thriving youth section, is hoping that if there is CCTV in the area, it might help the gardai find who was responsible.
Meanwhile, the club is asking people who may have witnessed any suspicious activity at the pitch on these dates to contact Malahide Garda Station on 01-6664600 or through its website www.malahidefingalhockeyclub.com
