Gerry Ryan left us seven years ago today

TODAY marks the seventh anniversary of the death of broadcasting legend Gerry Ryan.

The 2fm star, from Clontarf, was a giant of the national airwaves and his distinctive voice is still badly missed. Despite various personnel reshuffles in his morning slot, it has been impossible to replicate his winning formula: a mix of mischievousness, rebelliousness and compassion.

Despite his outspoken views and no-nonsense attitude, nobody quite did empathy like Gerry Ryan as many of his interviewees will attest.

Today, our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues. This footage, broadcast following his death on April 30, 2010, serves as a reminder of how much Gerry Ryan meant to us all.
