Man dies after hit and run in Coolock

A MAN in his 20s who was seriously injured in a hit and run incident in Coolock died in Beaumont Hospital last night.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the collision, which occurred at Hazelwood Drive, Kilmore, Coolock, on Wednesday night, shortly after 9.45pm.

A 30-year-old man is currently assisting gardaí with their investigations at Coolock Garda Station.

The now deceased man suffered serious injuries when he was struck by a vehicle described as being a white Renault Megane van. He had been out jogging at the time of the collision.

The vehicle failed to remain at scene. The man received medical assistance at the scene before being taken to Beaumont Hospital.

A short time later, a vehicle was discovered burnt out at Beechlawn Grove, Coolock, close to Parnell’s GAA Club. It has been seized for technical examination.

Investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, particularly those who may have observed a white coloured Renault Megane van in the Coolock area prior to or following the collision, especially in the Hazelwood and Beechlawn areas between 9pm-10.30pm.
