Local barber closes after 57 years

REMEMBERING THE PAST: Leo ‘George’ Devitt presents his collage of Duffy’s Barber photos to Michael Duffy of Duffy’s Barbers shop, with from l-r: Seamus Griffith, Vincent Browne, Maria Duffy, Pearse Adams, Robert Bishoff, Pat Hooper, Colette Kelly and Barry Murphy coordinator.

IN 1960, Pat Duffy and his brother Thomas began trading as barbers in premises over Prescott Cleaners at the top of Main Street, Raheny.

Not long after opening Thomas emigrated to England and in 1979 Pat’s son, Michael, joined the business.

Pat Duffy died in 1998 and Michael ran the business until February 25, when it ceased trading.

Duffy’s Barbers served Raheny over the past 57 years and many local people will remember going there to get their hair cut and beards shaved by both Pat and Michael. They will be sadly missed for the chat and connectivity with the village.
