Dog suffers horrific injuries after pitbull attack at Malahide Castle

THESE are the horrific injuries inflicted on a small dog after she was savagely attacked by a pitbull in the grounds of Malahide Castle.

The gruesome photograph was shared on the popular Enjoy Malahide Facebook page to highlight the issue of restricted breeds not being muzzled when in public places. There was widespread condemnation of the incident on social media after the picture was posted.

According to the dog’s owner, her black and white Jack Russell was being walked by her father in the castle grounds one evening this month when she was attacked by a white pitbull terrier.

“It took 15 to 20 minutes for two grown men to release my dog from the jaws of the attacking dog,” she said. “The owner had two of them and unfortunately didn’t have muzzles on them. It was a horrific ordeal for all involved.

“The owner was very apologetic and said was going to bring the dog to be put down. I really hope he acted on his word and his responsibility to the wider community. I just want to spread the word about this attack and show just how easily it can happen.”

The injured dog had a drain inserted into her neck to release fluid and had to be brought to the vet twice.

Her owner added: “She will never be the same again and will live in fear of this attack. If you choose to have these dangerous dogs, please have the respect and responsibility to realise what can happen and muzzle them properly.”
