Service at Golden Years extended

MINISTER of State for Mental Health and Older People, Helen McEntee, officially opened the extension to Darndale Belcamp Village Centre’s Golden Years Service and launched the brand new Village Centre website www.darndalebelcampvc.ie and centre brochure.

The event was well attended by representatives from Pobal, Department of Social Protection, St Stephen’s Green Trust, HSE, local TDs, councillors, partners and members of the service. 

The centre’s PRO, Nicko Murphy, gave a brief orientation around the new website and presented a new Darndale Belcamp Village Centre brochure to everyone in attendance. 

Chief executive Linda Hayden, chairperson of the board of directors Cepta Dowling and Minister McEntee gave speeches about various aspects of the services offered by the centre. 

The role that the Village Centre and all of its service providers have in the community was highlighted by each of the speakers, with Ms Hayden speaking about the journey of Golden Years and thanking everyone in attendance for their continued support and assistance. 

Ms Dowling thanked the Golden Years team and the Village Centre maintenance team for carrying out all the refurbishment work in-house. Minister McEntee emphasised the importance of services like Golden Years due to the growing population of older people. She also commended all the service providers in the Village Centre for their work.

Thanks to this new extension, Golden Years is now in a position to offer an additional 100 day-care places per week to older people. Golden Years Senior Centre is all about socialising, getting out of the house and having fun. There is an extensive activities programmes and they also offer day-trips and social events to all members.
