THERE are a lot of quality dancers in Portmarnock judging by the standard  on show at the recent Strictly 2016 event held in Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Club (PSLC).

After all the couples displayed their dancing skills before an appreciative crowd, it was Cassie Hackett and Ian Garry who emerged as the overall winners.

However, also winners on the night was the local Portmarnock Integrated ARCH Club, a group that has been doing excellent work in the community for more than 25 years.

At the PSLC, the Strictly 2016 dancers raised a total of €5,300 for the ARCH club.

A group of parents and friends of children with disabilities founded Portmarnock ARCH Club in 1990, as there were no facilities in the area prior to this for young people with special needs.

The ARCH Club is a purpose-built facility situated to the rear of St Anne’s Church in Portmarnock Village. It was built to the highest possible standards with total accessibility for members with physical disabilities.

The centre provides members with week long activities like music, dance, drama, aerobics, snooker, bowling, table tennis, swimming and football.

Portmarnock ARCH Club is affiliated to the National Federation of Arch Clubs and the Catholic Youth Council.
