Warning as first of the winter storms hits Howth
Dublin People 26 Nov 2016
THE Irish Coast Guard unit in Howth issued warnings to the public after the Northside seaside town was battered by the first of the winter’s storms last week.
The Coast Guard released a dramatic video as they advised the public to exercise caution near exposed coastal areas during the stormy conditions that saw very strong north and north easterly winds lashing the pier.
“At three hours before high tide, our unit was requested to assist on the East Pier in Howth,” the Coast Guard stated last Monday (November 21).
“Members of the public were advised to avoid walking the pier as waves were crashing over it, presenting the risk of washing someone off.”
A status yellow weather warning was in place across the country while a status orange warning was issued for marine areas.
According to the coast guard, members kept watch as they monitored the storm’s development.
They also advised people to monitor Met Eireann’s website www.met.ie
