Fundraiser is a piece of cake
Dublin People 19 Nov 2016
A CHRISTMAS cake decoration demonstration was held at Howth Yacht Club and raised over €900 for Howth RNLI.

Garry Wickham, from SuperValu Sutton, gave the audience top tips on the best way to prepare the perfect base for creating a stunning Christmas cake. He answered questions, talked about his experiences decorating cakes and described his approach to getting it right.
Garry’s work was on display in the form of six cakes depicting the characters from the animated movie, ‘Frozen’, which were included in the raffle. He had also prepared a larger cake which was auctioned with the proceeds divided between Howth RNLI and St Michael’s House in Bayside.
The local lifeboat station was chosen as Charity of the Year 2016 by the supermarket and the fundraising event was organised in association with SuperValu Sutton who provided finger food and raffle prizes for the event.
The funds raised will be used to provide new crew kit and further training for the RNLI’s volunteer crewmembers to ensure their safety when they are saving lives at sea. Howth RNLI fundraising chairperson Rose Michael said: “We had a wonderful evening and a fantastic turn out. Garry is a fantastic baker and has an amazing talent for creating masterpieces. We’re very grateful that he has shared his time and creativity to help us to raise much needed funds for the local lifeboat.”
