A CLONTARF hairdressing salon is holding a big fundraiser this weekend in aid of the Irish Cancer Society and in memory of one of its former apprentices.

‘Remembering Niamh’, organised by Liam O’Byrne, from Hession Hairdressing, will take place this Sunday, November 6, to remember Niamh Crosby, a former worker who sadly lost her life to cervical cancer in March, aged 24.

At the Clontarf branch of Hession’s, from 10am to 4pm, clients can pay €50 and receive a cut/blowdry, and a goody bag that includes Kerastase, Redken, Yonka and CND. Butler’s Chocolates, Prosecco and nibbles will also be available on the day.

Mr O’Byrne said: “Our fundraising day on the 6th will do two things: it will allow us to remember all of what was good about Niamh, along with giving us the opportunity to raise badly needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society.”

Niamh was diagnosed with cervical cancer in March 2013. She fought an extremely difficult battle and was given the all clear from cancer in October 2014. Unfortunately the cancer returned and Niamh passed away on March 18.

“Niamh’s positivity and bravery was a massive inspiration to her colleagues and they strongly felt that although she was gone they would try to keep her memory alive. They are delighted to give up their time this Sunday in her memory,” said Mr O’Byrne.

Over 100 clients are expected to attend and support the cause. Mr O’Byrne said support from other local businesses has also been very helpful.

“Kevin Murphy has kindly donated a hamper full of products and we have also received gift vouchers from local businesses including Kennedy’s Foodstore and Clontarf Holistic Centre,” he added. “L’Oreal and Marks and Spencer have also pitched in to add to a fantastic array of goodies for anyone who donates to this incredible cause.”
