THE Fingallians GAA Under 13 Girls’ team were celebrating last Saturday week after winning the Dublin County Division 3 Championship with a 6-9 to 2-8 victory over Ballyboden St Enda’s.

The Swords team led by only one point at the break (2-4 to 2-3). However, midway through the second half Fingallians started to stretch their lead with some powerful long range goals and accurate point taking.

Fins goalkeeper, Róisín Gallagher, held the line steadfastly with some excellent saves and accurate, powerful kickouts, while full backs Ava Byrne, Róisín Byrne and Néamh Le Blanc kept the ‘Boden girls at bay with dogged marking. Half backs Leah Brophy, Orlagh Walzer and Alannah Rose McKenna likewise were very effective in denying access to the Southsiders.

Ava Taylor (captain) and Abi Colclough at midfield intercepted high balls and lead the attack. The half forward line comprised Siobhán Sheppard, Jessica McCormack and Elena Clarke Diez who were instrumental in feeding ball to full forwards Nicole Carter, Ciara Markey and Sarah Smith. Second half substitutes Siún O’Shea, Eve and Hollie Gibney, Fern Connolly and Caitlin O’Rourke made a big impact too.

The jubilant winners were gracious in victory. Vice-captain Orlagh Walzer (13) made a very eloquent speech thanking the Ballyboden St Enda’s girls for a great game. She acknowledged the Dublin LGFA board, the referee, Scoil Uí Chonaill for providing the venue, her management team and the supporters.
