A NORTHSIDE girl displayed great generosity recently when she had her beautiful tresses cut for charity.

Rebecca Perkins (9), from Raheny, and a pupil at St Paul’s National School in Ayrfield, saw a programme on TV in 2015 about sick children who were experiencing unnecessary discomfort and itching from the artificial wigs they were wearing.

Rebecca wanted to help them. She decided to grow her hair and donate it to the Rapunzel Foundation which organises for the hair to be turned into wigs for children with various illnesses.

Rebecca got a great response to her initiative. As well as donating her hair, she raised €235 for the charity. Understandably this kind and thoughful Northside girl is very proud of her achievement. When asked if she would miss her hair, Rebecca replied: “Aah it’s only hair. It will grow back!”
