From the boot of a car to a new life in Malahide – Edward’s story

Edward is loving life in Malahide

THIS adorable pup was one of 20 seized from a car boot at Cairnryan Ferry Port in Scotland recently as part of a police operation into the illegal trade of dogs from Ireland to the UK.

Today, we are happy to report that he is settling into his new life after being rehomed with the McLaughlin family in Malahide.

According to the ISPCA, the 20 puppies seized were all too young to travel and did not have pet passports. Although they were microchipped, the pups were not registered on an approved database as required under regulations. They were all returned to Ireland where new homes were sought by the charity.

As for Edward, who is a beautiful Cockapoodle, he was adopted by the McLaughlins who are delighted with the new addition to their family.

Mr McLaughlin explained: “My children had been asking for a family dog for some time and my wife and I came around to the idea after setting down some ground rules on taking care of the new pet. I saw a post on Twitter about the puppies found in a car boot in Scotland. I called the ISPCA immediately and after meeting the criteria for adoption, we were introduced to Edward.

“He has been a gift to our house. He welcomes each and every one of us on our return home with more enthusiasm than you can imagine. I’m looking forward to adopting a companion rescue puppy so they can keep each other company and further enrich our lives.”

Vet Pete Wedderburn was interviewed on TV3 Ireland AM earlier this morning, in the company of Edward, where he talked about the problem of puppy farms. You can watch it here.
