THE announcement last week of the creation of 110 new jobs for the Northside has been described as great news for the community.

Nightline, the largest independent logistic and delivery service in the country, revealed that it will be locating the new jobs in Swords as part of an expansion of the business.

In a massive €3 million investment, the company is expanding to cater for the launch of new premium services for its customers including same day, evening and weekend deliveries.

As a direct result of this investment, Nightline has opened a new depot in Swords where the new jobs will include delivery driver posts, depot support staff and sortation shift staff that are expected to deliver a boost to Dublin’s local economy.

Last week, the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mary Mitchell O’Connor, joined Nightline CEO, John Tuohy, in announcing the development.

“I’m delighted to be welcoming this news today that Nightline are creating these jobs,” Minister O’Connor said.

“Indigenous Irish businesses such as Nightline are important to not only the national economy but also to local communities, delivering a valuable economic contribution across the country through increased employment and local expenditure.

“At the moment Ireland has one of the fastest growing employment rates in Europe, and it is home-grown companies such as Nightline which are helping to sustain this. I am particularly pleased that this expansion will lead to job growth in regions around Ireland. I want to wish Nightline and their employees continued success for the future.”

Mr Tuohy added: “As we near a quarter of a century in business we continue to enjoy consistent and sustained growth at Nightline. With the heavy demand for online shopping we are seeing a strong and steady need for parcel and delivery services and this expansion is in line with the desire to continually give our growing customer base a first class service.”

Deputy Alan Farrell (FG) welcomed the creation of the new jobs in Swords as part of Nightline’s expansion of its business.

“I am delighted that these new jobs are being created by Nightline in Swords,” he said.

“This is great news for our community and will deliver a boost to our local economy.

“I would like to wish the new Nightline employees in Swords the very best with their careers. I will continue to actively engage with the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mary Mitchell O’Connor, to ensure that the creation of new jobs in every community in the North County remains to the fore of the department’s agenda.”

Senator James Reilly, the Seanad Spokesperson for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, added: “I’m delighted by this news. Swords is a town which has come a long way in recent years and has a bright future ahead of it. This shows that Fingal is an attractive place to do business.

“We have the infrastructure and the workforce so we have to be positive and proactive in getting companies to set up here.”
