HOWTH is rightly considered a jewel in the crown of Dublin tourism. From its lively pubs and restaurants to its fabulous coastal views, here are 10 reasons why we think Howth is simply ab fab.

1. The scenery is a good place to start. With its stunning coastal views and cliff walks, the Howth peninsula takes some beating.

2. The pubs. Seriously, from The Bloody Stream to the Abbey Tavern and the Summit, you are spoiled for choice.

3. The restaurants. Take a stroll along the West Pier in particular and you will be greeted by the tantalising smells emanating from some of North County Dublin’s finest eateries.

4. Eating chips on the harbour wall. Just take a look at the queues outside Beshoff’s, Leo Burdock’s or Caffé Caira and you’ll understand exactly what we’re talking about.

5. Ice cream at Ann’s. What better way to round off a walk along the East Pier?

6. Howth Caste, its stunning grounds and the rhododendrons.

7. The DART. Yep, thanks to this popular train service, Howth can be enjoyed by all Dubliners. It can get a bit crowded at times on sunny days or during festivals.

8. The fishing boats. They’ve been there for generations and bring a distinct atmosphere to this working, living harbour.

9. Howth RNLI Lifeboat and Howth Coastguard. They work tirelessly to keep us safe, both on and off the water.

10. The celebs. From Uncle Gaybo to John Banville to U2’s Larry Mullen, Howth has been home to some big names. Oh, did we mention Vogue Williams?
