Princess Evie has wish granted

A NORTHSIDE girl had her wish to become a princess for a day granted, thanks to a national charity. 

In January 2014, Evie Lawlor (6), from Donnycarney, was diagnosed with a devastating neurodegenerative disorder called Vanishing White Matter (VWM). 

On June 10, Make-A-Wish Ireland organised for Evie and her 20 school friends to be given the five-star treatment during her Princess Party at Clontarf Castle. 

A delighted Evie travelled by horse and carriage from her school, Our Lady of Consolation NS, Donnycarney, to Clontarf.

Evie and her friends enjoyed a great day, which included face painting, balloon modelling, food, party games and loads of fun.

Lisa Lawlor, Evie’s mum, said it was a day “all of us will cherish”. 

“The smile on Evie’s face just said it all,” said Lisa. 

“It was magical from start to finish.”

Make-A-Wish Ireland grants wishes to children with life threatening illnesses such as cancer, heart diseases, cystic fibrosis and other serious conditions.

Make-A-Wish chief executive Susan O’Dwyer said: “We saw a surge in donations towards the end of last year and are hoping that we can continue the momentum and grant the highest ever number of wishes in a year. 

“This would greatly alleviate our backlog of seriously ill children awaiting their wishes to be granted, such as the very brave Evie Lawlor.”
