Council honours local woman Marie

A NORTHSIDE woman was honoured last week for her outstanding contribution to the Irish Countrywomen’s Association (ICA).
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr David O’Connor, welcomed Marie O’Toole, President of the ICA, together with her family, friends and colleagues, to the Council Chamber in Swords to present her with an award.
A proud Portmarnock resident, Marie’s links to the region date back to when she met her late husband at a dance at Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links.
As the most senior officer in the ICA, following her election to the role of President last year, Marie is the first Dubliner and the first person from Fingal to hold the post in the ICA’s history.
Ms O’Toole has faced many challenges in her life, including having breast cancer, becoming a carer and losing her husband.
Mayor O’Connor said: “Marie has great plans for the ICA during her Presidency including increasing the membership and highlighting issues affecting members including the impact of farm accidents on families, the struggles faced by carers, mental health or rural crime.
“I have no doubt that she will achieve great things in all these areas and I am proud, as Mayor of Fingal, to make this presentation to Marie, acknowledging her outstanding achievements in both her personal life and in her role as President of the ICA.”
