A LOCAL man has been recognised for his volunteering work at the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) over the last 15 years.

Eugene Memery, who volunteers at the IWA Resource and Outreach Centre, Clontarf, was presented with the Overall Volunteer of the Year award at the organisation’s National Volunteer Awards. Speaking at the awards ceremony, held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, Tony Cunningham, IWA National Director of Volunteering, said: “All over Ireland, volunteers of all ages give of their time and effort to make a difference to the lives of people with physical and sensory disabilities.

“Their life-enhancing work contributes to the resilience of local IWA services and supports. “IWA’s national Volunteer Awards are a wonderful opportunity for the association to show our appreciation for those who volunteer, making a positive difference to the lives of others on a daily basis.” Mr Cunningham said every year IWA members and staff are asked to nominate people and organisations they felt should be awarded for their voluntary contribution.

“Eugene Memery was recognised for the diversity of his volunteering over many years and we were delighted to present him with the Overall Volunteer of the Year Award 2016,” he added.
