A NORTHSIDE school has laid the foundations for a campaign to improve its facilities.

Dublin All-Ireland winner Brian Fenton and a few little helpers launched the Buy-A-Brick campaign at Naíscoil Íde, a primary school in Raheny.

The school plays a very important part of the Raheny community and its neighbouring parishes.

Thousands of small children have passed through its doors since it opened in 1958 and have been given the very best start in life.

That wonderful work continues today under the guidance of Clare Ring and her wonderful staff. However, the school buildings are aging and in need of modernisation.

Funding has finally been secured from the Department of Education for a new building to replace the five existing prefabs in the back yard. As so often happens, there will be a shortfall in funding between the cost and the building and fitting out of the new classrooms and the actual amount of money received.

The Parents’ Association at the school wants to help bridge that gap. They launched the Buy-A-Brick campaign and need help from all of the parents/pupils, past and present, to reach the target and raise a total of €75,000.

The cost of bricks range from €50, €100 and €250 to €1,000.

Bricks can be purchased online by visiting www.naiscoilide.ie or by post to Naíscoil Íde, All Saints Drive, Raheny or by dropping into the school secretary.
