A GROUP of young people involved in a local community project marked the 1916 Easter Rising Centenary by producing an incredible piece of art.

The youngsters on the Kilbarrack Coast Community Programme (KCCP) wanted to commemorate the Rising in their own way.

They decided to take six history classes on the Rebellion, kindly provided by KLEAR, the local adult education centre, and they took part in the historical tour of Glasnevin Cemetery.

Recently they started art classes and, inspired by this, they set about painting a community mural.

Local musician Damien Dempsey performed at the official unveiling of the mural.

Marian Clarke of KCCP congratulated all those involved and said the end result of the project is “truly amazing”.

“For people with no previous art training, they captured the spirit of 1916 with a very 2016 feel,” said Ms Clarke.
