Did you ever meet under Clerys clock?

ONE of Dublin’s most famous meeting points, Clerys clock, will be the subject of a new documentary, and the producers want to hear your stories about the iconic landmark.

The production company behind last year’s successful ‘Older than Ireland’ documentary is on the hunt for people to feature in their next project, ‘Under the Clock’.

The new documentary will tell the stories of a generation of Irish people who have met under the Clerys clock on O’Connell Street over the years.

The well-known clock has long been used as a rendezvous for first dates, nights on the town, or going to greet family up from outside Dublin.

Colm Nicell, co-producer of the project, stated that when people said ‘I’ll meet you under the clock’, they know exactly where that was.

“If you said that in any other country they’d ask ‘what clock?’,” he pointed out.

Less than a year after Clerys department store shut its doors, Snackbox Films are looking to hear all the fascinating and memorable experiences that people have with the landmark.

The clock itself has been there since the 1920s, being replaced only three times.

When the clocks changed a few weeks ago, it was pointed out that Clerys clock hadn’t been changed.

“There was nobody there to do it,” Mr Nicell explained. “It’s the end of an era.”

The film will feature people from all walks of life, with the producers hoping to get a range of interesting stories about the clock.

“We’re not just looking for romantic stories,” added Mr Nicell. “If it’s poignant, funny or interesting we want to hear that too.

“We are really keen to feature a large cross section of people from every county and community in Ireland who used the iconic clock as a place to meet.”

Mr Nicell and his co-producer, Gary Walsh, will be directing the documentary themselves.
