Darragh Glynn, from St Paul’s College, Raheny was awarded first place in the Chemistry discipline at the Irish European Union Science Olympiad held at DCU.
Darragh was presented with a gold medal, and was highly commended on his results which were the highest achieved for a number of years in the subject.
The top 350 students across Ireland based on Junior Cert results in Maths and Science were invited to participate in the annual competition.
The top three students were awarded gold medals, the next three silver and the next six bronze.
All medal winners were then invited to participate in Practical Training in January. After a further assessment process, the top six students, which included Darragh, were selected to represent Ireland in Estonia.
Meanwhile, Paul Clarke, who came first in Ireland in Applied maths based on his Leaving Certificate results in 2015, is now studying pure maths in Cambridge and returns home frequently.
Paul, a former St Paul’s College student, won the 2014 BT Young Scientist & Technology competition.
On his last visit home he engaged in a question and answer session at St Paul’s with current 1st and 2nd years about his successes including studying maths.
