A NORTHSIDE girl’s writing skills have been recognised after she won a competition organised by a well-known charity.

Maya Broderick (10), a fourth class pupils at St Patrick’s Senior National School in Skerries, won GOAL’s ‘Write the Future’ competition for a letter she wrote to Minister for Education and Skills, Jan O’Sullivan, about the Syrian refugee crisis.

At an award ceremony, Maya received her prize from Minister O’Sullivan and GOAL chief executive Barry Andrews.

As part of the education initiative, students nationwide were invited to write to a person of their choice about the ongoing crisis.

More than 1,000 students, aged between eight and 18, penned letters to sports stars, musicians, politicians and other influencers. The ‘Write the Future’ GOAL programme aims to educate students on humanitarian issues and the work that the charity does in this regard.
