Man arrested after pensioners assaulted in Clontarf robbery

GARDAÍ investigating a robbery in Clontarf on December 8 have arrested a 25-year-old man.

The incident occurred at approximately 12.30pm when the suspect walked up the driveway of a house on Malahide Road and assaulted the injured party – a male in his 70s – and took his car keys. A passerby, also in his 70s, went to the aid of the senior citizen and he was also assaulted.

The suspect left the scene in the injured party’s car. Both males were treated at scene by Dublin Fire Brigade. The second injured male was taken to the Mater Hospital for further treatment but has since been released.

As a result of investigations carried out by gardaí from Clontarf and Ballymun, assisted by the Emergency Response Unit, a house at Dolmen Court, Ballymun, was searched and a 25-year-old man was arrested. He is currently being detained at Clontarf Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, as amended.

The injured party’s car was also located in Ballymun.
