Burn-out car creates unsightly mess at South Beach in Rush

The burnt-out car on South Beach this morning

THIS was the disgusting sight that greeted walkers on a scenic North County Dublin beach this morning.

The burnt-out remains of a car on South Beach, Rush, was in stark contrast to the stunning views across the sea to Lambay Island, Howth and the Dublin Mountains.

The unsightly mess was discovered in the car park, close to the local secondary school, St Joseph’s.

South Beach made the headlines for all the wrong reasons earlier this year when a swimming ban was imposed for the peak summer season due to pollution from a nearby sewage outfall. While there are plans to upgrade the sewage network in the area, it will be a number of years before the Irish Water led project comes to fruition.

South Beach is one of the most popular areas for kite surfing in Dublin and the amenity has been greatly enhanced since access for cars was blocked off a number of years ago.

This has resulted in a notable decrease in anti-social activity on the beach involving so-called boy racers who had posed a major public safety risk to users of the beach.

Let’s hope that Fingal County Council removes this burnt-out wreck from the vicinity as soon as possible.
